What do fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes have to do with lawn care? As the days become warmer, spring will turn into summer before you know it. And with warm weather comes those pesky pests that love to find unkempt areas of your lawn to live and breed in. There are several things you can to do maintain your lawn — not only will it look nicer, but it will keep the bugs away!
Fleas and Ticks
Lawn Care and Pest Control Service Keeps Mosquitoes AwayThe first thing you should know is that it’s important to act fast when it comes to flea and ticks, as soon as you notice even one. Infestations pop up quickly and can be very difficult to control once inside the home, says the National Pest Management Association.
Keep Your Lawn Groomed: The best way to keep them out of your home is to keep your lawn well kept. Untended lawns provide hiding spots and food sources for rodents and other animals that fleas feed on.
Lawn Tick Treatments: You should also inquire about lawn tick treatments; especially those that focus on the edges of the lawn where it interfaces with natural areas. This method has the greatest chance of preventing ticks from establishing themselves in your back yard.
Mosquitoes
Get Rid of Standing Water: Eliminate breeding sites by getting rid of standing water anywhere and everywhere: clogged gutters, drain outlets from air conditioners, dripping faucets, old tires, wading tools, over-irrigated and poorly drained lawns, saucers under potted plants, tree stumps and tree holes, watering cans and buckets, and wheelbarrows.
Mow Your Lawn: Adult mosquitoes rest during the day, usually on tall weeds or other vegetation. Make your yard less hospitable to mosquitoes by mowing your lawn regularly, and keep weeds away from your home’s foundation.
